How to write a bio on Instagram
How to write a bio on Instagram? But above all: what to write in a bio?
It might sound simple, but in reality, not everyone values this aspect of their profile and, indeed, it is often underestimated.
The biography has a very important task: that is to explain briefly what your profile is about and capture the attention of a potential follower. And it is very important that the user immediately has a good impression of you and your profile if you want them to follow you.
In this guide, I’ll explain how to write a bio on Instagram that convinces your profile visitors to follow you.
What your Instagram bio should do
As mentioned before, the biography has a very important task and must be convincing and direct, due to the limited space.
A good Instagram bio must:
- Give essential information about who you are and what you do or, if your profile belongs to your business, briefly explain what it does or what it does
- Provide users with a way to get in touch with you (beyond DMs)
- Help your (potential) followers and new visitors understand what makes what you do valuable
- Have a call to action that lead the user to deepen what you do. It could be the registration to a webinar, the subscription to the newsletter or the link to your website
These 4 points are essential for users who visit your profile so that in a few seconds you get an idea of you by evaluating the idea if it is worth following you.
But that’s not all!
We have seen the purpose of the biography, but how to structure it and what to write within it?
Above you can see the screen of my Instagram profile dedicated to this blog.
Let’s specifically analyze the various useful points on how to write an effective and impactful Instagram biography :
Choose a clear profile name
The profile name, along with the bio, is among the first things a user notices.
People who search for you on Instagram will likely use your name or your company name to find you, so it’s very important to make sure the name is clear and is exactly what your followers or customers are looking for.
Another very important detail is to insert a keyword within the name.
In my case, I didn’t use it (it could be ‘social’, but it’s not intentional).
What I mean is: what do you do? Are you a photographer? Enter it in your profile name. Are you a content creator? Enter it in your name.
ATTENTION! By name I do not mean the username (or username). If you look at the image above, the username is the one found above the profile image, while the profile name is the one immediately below the image.
To give you an example, it could be: ‘Francesco | Content Creator ’
Therefore, when a user searches on Instagram by writing ‘Content Creator’ in the list, your profile may also come out.
What do you do?
Analyzing the screen I inserted above you can see that the first sentence is “Guides on the social world”.
Now I was very direct because I didn’t have much space left and I wanted to give more importance to the next step (which we will see later).
But, despite everything, it does his job. We understand that on BreakingSocial.it it is possible to find guides relating to the world of social media and, therefore, what I do.
And that’s the goal, right? Let users understand in a nutshell what you do.
What is your goal?
As I said before, I wanted to give more importance to the next phase of the biography, namely the goal.
In my case there are 3 (as you can see from the image above):
- How to understand how social networks work
- How to use social networks for your projects (and not be exploited by them)
- How to get results thanks to the 2 points here above
What will this make users understand?
It will make people understand my goal and that following the profile they could get these results (I write ‘could’ because it always depends on how and if the person applies what they learn). 😉
Enter a Call To Action
My Call To Action is ‘Visit the blog’ with the two arrows pointing towards the link.
Unlike other social networks, Instagram offers users the ability to insert only a clickable link on their profile. Many use this link to promote their website or blog (like me) or e-commerce with product and article pages.
However, there is also the possibility of adding more than one link.
“Why, you just said you can only put one on …”
I know, I know… in theory it’s just a link, but it contains many others. Let me explain.
There is a solution to be able to add other links to your profile. The most famous and used tool is certainly Linktree, but there are others even more valid.
The best I’ve been using lately is Taplink .
The features are these:
- Custom domain
- Deep link
- Google Analytics
- Facebook Pixel
- Link programming
- QR Code
- Form for lead generation
- Landing page
- Receiving payments
- Maps with location of your shop
With this tool it is possible to enclose several links in one. In practice, when the user visits your link, they will find all the options you have entered within Taplink .
Taplink has one free and two paid versions that include additional features. Paid versions start at € 2 per month, but with the breakingsocial7 code you can use any paid plan for free for 7 days.
Register and use the code breakingsocial7 to take advantage of the free trial of paid plans for 7 days.
Within this tool you can insert the links of your blog, your Facebook page, your e-commerce, the form to register for the newsletter and much more: the user will then decide what to visit.
Add at least one contact method
If you have a shop or manage a company account, you should make it as easy as possible to let you contact or know how to reach your shop.
One of the best ways to do this is by switching to a company profile.
Once this step is done, in fact, it is possible
include your email address, telephone number and address
of your shop or company without going to consume i
fonts available for Instagram bio.
Having entered these details, the user can easily click on
one of these links and contact you quickly and easily
by email or phone.
Save your most important stories in the ‘Highlights’ section
I close the article with the last topic and section found right at the bottom of the biography: the Highlights. Instagram stories are very important to your profile, but there is a limit: they only last 24 hours.
If you believe that some of the ones you post are worth showing for longer, then you can save them in the Highlights section, located right below the bio, and show them in this section without any time limit.
It is possible to save these stories, name them and organize them as you see fit, like a simple folder on a PC.
Again, you could use them in different ways like doing
advertise your e-commerce products, group news
if you run a news site or blog or a series of stories where you have
talked about an important topic that you always want to keep to
available to all.
Saving your stories in the ‘Highlights’ section is very simple: go to your profile and tap the ‘+’ symbol, after which you will have to choose all the stories in your archive that you want to add to this section and rename it.
As you can see from the photo I put above of my profile, that blue dot with a laptop inside that says ‘Blog’ is part of the ‘Highlights’ . I (for now) only have one folder but you can create as many as you like.
Well, we’ve reached the end of this article and we’ve seen how to write a bio on Instagram . We also saw how optimizing your Instagram bio is very important as it is the first thing a user reads on their profile.
If you know other methods on how to write an effective Instagram bio let me know in the comments.
