Instagram Stories: what they are and how to use them
Every day, over 300 million people use Instagram Stories , the Snapchat feature that creates sequences of photos and videos that disappear 24 hours after being posted. This is good news for you and… for the millions of company profiles that are present on the platform, considering that – on average – one in five Stories receives a direct message. And when a potential customer reaches your company on Instagram, it turns into a particularly tempting advantage.
How to use Instagram Stories?
If you don’t have experiences with Instagram , the following lines will probably help clear up some doubts. If, on the other hand, you have already gained some experience with this social media, chances are you don’t need to know more, given that using Stories is really very simple.
In any case, after setting up an Instagram account , to create Stories, all you have to do is open the Instagram app, tap the camera icon in the top left corner, select the format of your content at the bottom of the screen (type, live, normal, boomerang, superzoom, rewind, hands-free, stop motion) and then tap the white circle at the bottom of the screen to take a photo. Press and hold the white circle to make a video. When doing this, remember to shoot vertically, so that your content takes up as much screen space as possible.
How to add a hashtag
With that done, you may want to add a hashtag to your story, in order to help potential customers find your content. To do this, all you have to do is create a photo or video, click on the Aa icon in the upper right corner (you will see a slider appear in the center of the screen), adjust the size, color and position of the cursor. So, before tapping the # symbol, type a word or phrase, without spaces, and hit enter to create your hashtag.
Remember that Instagram allows a maximum of 30 hashtags per post, but you should never create that many! According to a TrackMaven study, average interactions per post drop after about five hashtags.
How to add the location
Finally, you may want to add a location to your story, thus allowing viewers to understand where you were. Most locations around the world have their own Stories, which are curated by Instagram from posts that contain location tags. Posts that are selected for a Location Story generally gain more reach, visibility, and engagement. So, it’s always worth adding the location if you think it’s relevant.
To do this, create a photo or video, tap the folded emoticon icon at the top of the screen to view an assortment of stickers, tap the Location sticker, then select exactly where the photo was taken or the video.
Once that’s done, remember to save and publish your story!
